Aqaba
Jordan's only port on the Red Sea, Aqaba is blessed with pristine beaches and wonderful coral reefs. Aqaba's claim to modern historical fame also comes from Lawrence as this was the port of the Ottomans that he and his army of Arab rebels conquered after crossing the Wadi Rum desert. Aqaba is a pleasant town with wonderful opportunities for swimming and snorkeling in one of the finest coral reefs in the world. For those who are not keen on snorkeling or diving, there are many lovely cruises in glass bottom boats which provide a much more relaxed but still very satisfying introduction to this magnificent reef in the Red Sea.

We know you will enjoy the old section of the city which has many atmospheric streets and suqs (shops). Like all of this city, old Amman is safe and friendly. As you will also discover, no place in Jordan is more than a half day's drive from Amman, so it makes a logical base for your visit.
